Newton Newton is an asteroids-like game built in Processing and Max/MSP. All graphics are drawn live in Processing, including the 'cell shaded' smoke effect. Processing sends OSC messages through local host to a port that Max is listening on, triggering sound events. All sounds are live synthesis from max. Players attempt to chain destruction of enemies by triggering the walls of mines. Players are awarded less points for directly shooting enemies, and zero points for blowing up only the mines. The next version will probably include some sort of waves or level system; it's too simple with randomly triggered enemies. Common Outlines
My favorite part of this is the common outline trick on the smoke trails. It's subtle when the game's in motion, but I think it really ties the particles together. It's acheived by drawing all of the particles once through with a thick outline (or simply a few pixels widers and taller than normal).
